Alfa Romeo 6C Sprint
With the brilliant Alfa Romeo 4C have the Italians for the first time a sports car with a rear placed mid-engine placed on the market*. It had, however, not much close to the brand had in 1982 already a similar concept in the showrooms.

The Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint is probably one of the lesser known Alpha’s, as it was overshadowed by its big brother, the final phasing GT/GTV/GTV6. That car is quite a bit of this sporty Alfa with rear-wheel drive and large viercilinders or V6, helps him, not really. Subcutaneous differences in the GTV and the Sprint, however, as day and night, since the latter on the chassis of the model year Alfasud. From 1983 to share in the Sprint (without Alfasud in the name) his technique with the 33.

Group B

Just like so many brands, also Alfa Romeo, the marketingpotentie of the legendary Group B-rallyklasse. The plan is framed to a six-cylinder sports car to develop, and interestingly enough, is not the GTV but the Sprint is used as a base. The block is behind the front seats and drives -like a true Alpha, it was fitting – the rear wheels. That a motor in the back of an Alfasud fits, was in 1974, have already been demonstrated, albeit with two cylinders less.

Autodelta based helps with the development, Zagato to build two prototypes. Compared to an ordinary Alfasud Sprint looks Sprint 6C a lot more muscled. The uitgeklopte wheel arches, big spoilers and aggressive wheels, and they contribute. What also strikes me is how ‘off’ the Sprint 6C looks. For an existing car, of which the layout is completely messed up is thrown, it seems the Alfa Sprint 6C quite ready for production. That the two prototypes of street-legal car’s-therefore, with the necessary luxury in the interior – instead of rally cars, does much to.

For whatever reason the Alfa Romeo will stop with the project is not clear. Many well-known sports cars never made it to action in the Group B standings, simply because this in 1986 and again is stopped because of too many deadly accidents. In 1982, the series is just started, and there is still no problem. May be provided Alfa Romeo problems in the selling of the mandatory 200 street versions or found that the 6C is not competitive enough? We will never know.

*we count the beautiful Tipo 33 Stradale, for convenience, as not
