Peugeot 407 review
In 2004 solved the violently stylized Peugeot 407 the 406. The “large” mouth of the 407, with a large grille and long overhang is certainly not everyone’s taste, but still sold the 407 just fine.

After the summer of 2004 followed the 407 SW (station so) and in 2005 there was also a coupe version of the 407. In the coupe were only the more powerful engines available, but also the “regular” 407’s were fine zescilinders to obtain.

Offer used cars

  • On AutoScout24 600 second-hand copies of the Peugeot 407 offered.
  • 40% has a diesel engine.
  • 5% of the offer has a LPG installation.
  • More than half of it is a station wagon.
  • The 407 coupe makes about 7% of the offer.
  • A sixth one has an automatic gearbox.
  • Navigation is in 30% of the used cars, as well as parking sensors.
  • Prices start at 3,000 euros for copies, often with 300,000 km on the counter (that they pick up so well).

Pros

  • Relatively a lot of car for the money as a used car.
  • Nice veercomfort, but also a good handling.
  • Fine, comfortable reisauto.
  • Quirky styling, if you like.

Issues

  • The large overhang can be tricky with parking and thresholds.
  • Ominous sounds from the undercarriage is often worn fuseekogels.
  • The a / c compressor from the dual zone climate control runs once fixed. Replacement is so expensive that it is economically sometimes the effort is not.
  • Burning ABS/ ESP lights often have sensors that piece, sometimes it is because a wheel bearing.
  • Failure power steering especially when cornering to the left: This is (partially) solved by a modification to the return line of the power steering. With some 407’s the problem disappears if the stuurbekrachtigingsolie to 2 bunch above maximum is replenished.
  • The 1.6 and 2.0 diesels suffer from EGR valves that pollute, injectors wear out and throttles that linger.
  • The 1.6 HDi suffers from a (too) tight carterinhoud, that i.c.m. the EGR (-> soot-in-oil) and the turbohitte may lead to a dead turbo’s, and sometimes even motorcycles.
  • Oliebeurten not stretch, rather timely change and, possibly, the stricter maintenance regime (for ‘heavy’ conditions of use) maintain. From 2008, here are adjustments for.
  • Screens go from orange to black, and be difficult to read.
