BMW, like several other automakers, is going to take part in the international exhibition of electronics CES-2016. The exhibition, which will open its doors next week, the company plans to show a concept of the AirTouch system. The system is one of the products in the BMW Vision Car and focused on “a demonstration of what can be the future of interiors and user interfaces, dashboards of cars.”

More specifically, the AirTouch system allows passengers to control the functions of the cars by gestures instead of interacting with touch-sensitive buttons and screens. The car still has a display that can be used for navigation, entertainment (audio, video, radio and so forth) and communication, however, the sensors of the multimedia system located between the dashboard and the rear view mirror can also recognize different gestures of the people in the cabin and allow you to control the system without actually touching the screen.

At CES-2015, BMW showed a Touch Command system for gesture control using the Samsung tablet as a dashboard to control the car. Technology actually moved from the stage of concept to the stage of the final product and is used, for example, in the BMW 7 series this year. Now the company wants to go even further, presenting AirTouch.

The new system is designed not only to improve the quality of gesture control, but also to reduce the number of tasks required to ensure that the system understood what they want from it at the moment. In theory, this would allow less distracted from the road, for example, when searching for a suitable radio station.

In addition to the system for gesture control, for both the driver and passengers, will have access to special buttons, confirming actions, as well as “large display”. In other words, the passenger, for example, can, using one hand to explore the menu system, while the other hand will confirm the selected action.
