Researchers from Plymouth University have developed a new method of password security, which can greatly improve the security. Method called GOTPass combines templates, images, and one-time passwords — this system promises to be more secure and easier to remember than traditional passwords.

GOTPass require adjustment before first use: the user must draw a pattern on the 4×4 grid just like Android users will unlock their phones. After selecting a template, the user will have to choose four out of 120 random icons, similar to emoticons, Emoji.

When it comes time to enter the password, the process is quite simple: the user enters his name, then draws the pattern to unlock it. After that, he shows 16 icons (of which 14 random and 2 from the user selected during system installation). When the user selects 2 correct icons, he receives a one-time password to log in.

It all sounds terribly complicated, but actually the whole process takes no more time than typing an ordinary password. The development team claims that their method is very easy to remember and provides a very reliable protection against burglary.
