Official: the Aston Martin V12 Vantage is coming!

The new V12 Vantage

Aston Martin spoons a V12 into the Vantage one more time.

Jeremy Clarkson was already wistful about the Aston Martin V12 Vantage in 2010, in his now legendary review of this car. Why? Cars like this would soon be history. Featuring Brian Eno's masterpiece “An Ending (Ascent)” as background music it is almost impossible not to get melancholy too.

We are now eleven years later. And indeed, it is inevitable that these kinds of cars will become extinct. It's just not there yet! It was almost certain that there would be a new Aston Martin V12 Vantage. And indeed, today Aston Martin makes the official announcement. Perhaps Clarkson was a bit premature after all.

Well, the new V12 Vantage will probably not get a naturally aspirated V12, but a twin-turbo V12. And it remains to be seen whether the new V12 Vantage with manual gearbox is available. But that does not alter the fact that Aston Martin is still just spooning a twelve-cylinder in the Vantage. They couldn't have done that either.

We already know what the new V12 Vantage will look like, thanks to the spyshots we shared earlier. Aston Martin now gives a preview of the sound itself:

This time there is real reason to be wistful. Aston Martin itself indicates that this car will be the last of its kind. They speak of “the last descendant in the lineage.” and “an end of an era”. So, when the new V12 Vantage arrives next year, it will be time to ‘An Ending (Ascent)’ to pull out of the record again.
