Video: Mercedes AMG GT gets new 4.0 V8 with 510 horsepower [updated]

The Mercedes AMG GT will be a little bit more tangible, and now is the most important part revealed: the engine.

It’s going to be a 4.0 litre V8 with two turbo’s that for an optimal cooperation, a capacity to deliver 510 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. The engine gets the type name M178 and the cylinder liners have a specific “nano-slide coating” which should ensure that there is as little possible resistance for the pistons. Thanks to dry-sump technology, it is no sump needed, and so the centre of gravity of the motor 55mm brought down could be.

And with the unveiling of the power of the motor, there is no doubt: the Mercedes AMG GT is ready for the battle with cars like the Porsche 911 Turbo and Jaguar F-Type R.

The car is at the end of the summer for the first time shown to the public on the show floor of the Paris motor show. Check the video here.

Update: the aforementioned power of 510 hp is in the AMG GT S, the top model. In addition, the GT also in a ‘basistrim’, with 462 hp.
