A revival of America mid-last century, for that warm, nostalgic feeling.

Big to small, that is Michael Paul Smith. He creates beautiful photos of American classics in their natural environment, so you go back in time you can imagine. To the good, old days when everything was possible in the area of cars because of safety, small engines, and silence for the faint hearted. Of CO2 emissions, most of them had never heard, let alone tax addition and all that kind of trouble.

Extra special is that the cars are all scale models. Michael Paul Smith builds them since childhood, and became obsessed with the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s. He began collecting old materials, such as wallpaper and rugs, which he later used to have also the surroundings of his models as realistic as possible. By the result on photograph to capture is his great hobby started.

Smith now has about 300 cars and 12 buildings for the fictional mini-town of Elgin Park. Without people or characters, is a conscious choice. The modelletjes he set carefully on a table in the outdoor, in and around his hometown of Winchester, Massachusetts. The process of creating a photo is interesting. I like to mix the old with the new and sort of juxtapose everything. For example, I’ll have a ‘57 Mercury and set it up against a carwash model I created. Honestly, it’s just child or playing. It’s creative play.
