Clarksoff What did Ivo Opstelten and Jeremy Clarkson have in common? They both know the news nice to pull on. We do a round on the web, with liveblogs, gokstrijd to the successor of Jezza (it is best that a woman can be) and commotion on Twitter.

As a summary for any car enthusiast over the past 24 hours beneath a stone has lived in: Jeremy Clarkson -the thick from Top Gear, has apparently one of his producers struck. Clarkson would be 4 march, after a long day of running, angry have become Oisin Tymon, assistant producer on the BBC’s cashcow. Whether it really blows have fallen? All of that is not yet clear, however, is Clarkson suspended, and the broadcasts of Top Gear provisional(?) suspended.

That keeps the tempers quite busy, not only here in the newsroom, but all over the interwebs. The Telegraph tightens the crown, they have a real liveblog open on their site. Including paparazzi photos of Jezza and May. As it should be in England, there are now probably more photographers around the home of Clarkson than an average rodelopersessie of the Oscars. Jezza himself keeps a cool head and would, with the leave of the house, have called “I ” m off to the job centre.”

Anyone who follows Jezza?
Big question is if Clarkson returns as a presenter of Top Gear. At Paddy Power, an online gambling house, you can get your money all bets on possible successors. Chris Evans seems to be under the bookmakers, with 2/1 the most logical choice, followed by Steve Coogan (3/1) and Dermot O’leary (5/1). But also on nemesis Piers Morgan (10/1), Rowan ‘Mr Bean’ Atkinson (40/1) and bochtenridder Michael Gambon (50/1), you can put money.

Any successor of Clarkson per se to be a man? At Paddy Power you can also convert to Clare Balding and Kirsty Gallacher. We have our reasons for that last option is not bad… Also the British Guardian columnist Zoe Williams see what a female presenter. In fact, she argues for a ‘eco-feminist Top Gear’. We will be the first paragraph of its argument, just quote, that gives quite the meaning of her story. Do you also not read.

The problem with Jeremy Clarkson, apart from him being a dick, is that he’s on the wrong side of history. There is a future for cars. There is a brilliant future for cars. There is even a future for programmes about cars. But for people doing stupid stunts in cars, while insisting that they are for petrol heads, who by definition don’t accept the bald facts of anthropogenic climate change? Not so much.

#BringBackClarkson
On Twitter seems to be the trend yet, especially that Jeremy should continue. Using the hastag #BringBackClarkson is people called a petition to sign, something that at the time of writing, already more than 435.000 people have done. Also the daughter of Jezza sees her father on the tube than in the kitchen, so she lets her followers know. James May and Richard Hammond seem to be on the side of Clarkson’s decision, though May not, and a bit sarcastically from the corner. The trio has after the huge crash of Hammond with a raketwagen already indicated that they are only with the current trio of Top Gear want to present. If they are indeed foot down and Jeremy flies out, then the BBC are looking for more than one talented kid. Wouter and Casper, you look on?

Dilemma
The BBC is in a difficult dilemma. It is certainly not the first time that Clarkson for the necessary problems. Racist statements and a thingy with a number plate in Argentina have Jezza and with him the BBC earlier in the problems. And there was the BBC pretty done with it. Or, as Jezza describes it: “I’m drinking in the last chance saloon.” On the other hand, Top Gear is a hugely profitable product for the BBC, the program has 350 million viewers and brings every year some 212 million euros in royalties. That is quite a substantial amount for a station that has no commercials broadcasting and the further need to have of grant.
