Cars with interchangeable sheet metal and ” variable body style’, it has often been tried and almost without exception, without too great success. Our own Max already went after a few auto’s shit, the Nissan Pulsar NX was also not a success, as well as the Mega Tjaffer. The what? Exactly, that’s so.
The lovenswaardiger that Daihatsu does her little head above the ground and dares to cross. They do that already with the Copen, who is currently working on its second generation. The sheet metal of the Copen is relatively easy to remove and you have the factory choice of three versions: a classic-looking specimen with round koplampjes (Copen Cero), the tighter lined Copen Robe, and the frenzied Copen Xplay. In theory, you can go to the dealer your car to let you turn into one of the other two variants, although this will not be a cheap geinje.
More fun is that this modular system also allows for different hardtops, and that’s where Daihatsu’s coming up. Both variants are officially still in the concept phase, but production seems a logical next step. The first instance is a hardtop which of you Copen Cero a real coupe, Alfa 4C-esque ass. This may also be partly due to the colour by the way.
Number two is the most interesting, a real Shooting Brake based on the Copen Robe. Does the coupe-hardtop still thinking at a relatively modest Italian, the Shooting Brake does, seen from behind, yet the most think of a ienieminie Ferrari FF. A lot of details let Daihatsu not yet separated, as we have not been able to discover whether the steel klapdakje of the Copen also can be removed.
