Privacy related to motorists is becoming a thing. According to the College Bescherming Persoonsgegevens (CBP) we have, however, nothing to worry about.

This statement is a response to the comments of the ANWB. The latter called out that specific legislation should be drafted to ensure the privacy of motorists to ensure. According to the CBP, the current legislation in this area, however, are sufficient and are more rules simply don’t need.

This mainly relates to the fact that cars are gradually moving computers, and then we are not talking about the ECU or electrical cars. Manufacturers are rooting in to an increasing extent in the private life of their customers by all kinds of data to collect through the car, which this data back to the factory can send. Think of (parking)locations, but also driving behaviour, contact details and other info. That is, incidentally, a lot of benefits.

The Dutch dpa considers that manufacturers first need to secure the consent and do that, too, before data can be used. The ANWB believes, however, that 75% of motorists in the Netherlands have no idea of the actual state of affairs and wants specific legislation in this area.

For the much needed variation am I this time with the ANWB agree, were it not that father is on plenty of ways to find out where and when you went shopping again. Kentekenchips, controls, parkeercontroles, and so by bringing exactly who is where, there’s a way. Perhaps the CBP also his light once shine?
