Electric 'premium' SUV: the choices (50,000+ euros)

For those who dare to spend a little more: for premium electric SUVs of more than 50,000 euros, the choice is now quite large.

Last week you could read all about the current selection of ‘affordable’ electric SUVs. With a budget of 45,000 euros you can come a long way. But what if you can spend a little more and then also want a little more car. What are your ‘premium’ choices?

Electric ‘premium’ SUV

Fortunately, they still exist. Some of these cars were once interesting for tax purposes, but now it's mainly about giving you a little more choice if you want to choose from the range of the electric “premium”. SUV for more than 50,000 euros. Sorted alphabetically, by the way.

Audi Q4 e-tron

We start with the Audi Q4 e-tron, which, by the way, only just fits in this overview of premium electric SUVs in terms of price. For example, there is a basic version called 35 (without quattro) and it is simply cheaper than 50 mille.

If that's your minimum budget, you're left with two versions: 40 and 45 quattro. The 45 quattro is the fastest with 265 hp and a sprint time of under 7 seconds, but it does sacrifice some driving range. For that you have to have the 40 with 516 km and 204 hp, or some luggage space (in height, then, under the parcel shelf, the Sportback is slightly larger) for the Sportback, which is only available as a 40 as a basic edition. That is because it comes 528 km away. With RWD, so nice and premium. The differences between those three are small.

The Q4 e-tron Sportback 45 quattro is the fast boy. This gets more horsepower than the 45 quattro without Sportback, 299 pieces. The range increases slightly and the sprint time drops to just over six seconds. To get the 45 quattro at the Sportback, you have to spend a little more: everything from 65,410 euros. Then you get the “Advanced Edition”, while all other motorizations are available as a basic version “Edition”. to be.

Audi e- tron

The big brother of the Q4 is simply called e-tron. This is Audi's first premium SUV and one of the oldest cars in this overview. Initially it only came as a 55 quattro with four-wheel drive, which initially went about 400 km. Audi now dares to talk a maximum of 440 km for that version. The basic version is now only a fraction cheaper and does give up almost 90 hp and 100 km of range, so in that respect you better save up for a 55. If you really want to spend a lot of money and have a real 503 hp on the rear wheels , you can buy an e-tron S for more than 100,000 euros.

Audi e-tron Sportback

In this case, there is nothing unique about the Sportback compared to the 'normal'. e-tron. Except for some more driving range. The 55 quattro is the version you want if you want to get as far as possible with the e-tron. Each version of the e-tron Sportback is about three grand more expensive than the normal one.

BMW iX

The BMW iX is the first 'dedicated' EV from BMW and in terms of numbers it is nothing against. The top version is very expensive, but gives a great driving range and with 523 hp on all wheels, the speed is also not disappointing. If 105 grand is too crazy, you also have a version with 416 km range for just under 87,000 euros. The BMW iX is quite expensive anyway, but it gives a lot of technology in return.

< h2 id="h-bmw-ix3">BMW iX3

The BMW iX3 is the electric version of the X3 (duh) and is exactly in between the two versions of the iX in terms of range. With rear-wheel drive like its non-EV brother. The iX3 is available in one version that goes 462 km and with 69,000 is already a lot more affordable than the iX. You have to see it this way: the iX is just more of a car, just like you pay more for an X5 than an X3.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

The controversial Ford Mustang Mach-E is an all-rounder. You have a lot of choice here for what you want and there is something to be said for every choice. So you have the car in three versions: RWD, AWD and GT. With RWD and AWD you can then also choose whether you want the ‘small’ 76 kWh battery or the large 99 kWh battery.

The cheapest is the RWD with the small battery and then you are ready for 50 grand. This one covers 440 km and has the least fast sprint time. This version with AWD gets even less far (400 km) but sprints a little faster to 100 km/h. Unfortunately for a little more money. The large battery with RWD is what the range fanatic wants: 610 kilometers is impressive in this price range. Here too, the AWD loses on the range, 540 km, but it sprints faster to 100.

The super-fast GT, which is also the most expensive at just under 77,000 euros, is fine with 500 km of range – but -not-the-best, but this one impresses with its 3.7 seconds to 100. For every budget and with every set of figures: the choice is huge at Ford.

Jaguar I-Pace

The Jaguar I-Pace was once a nice addition to our country. That's why you still see them. Because otherwise this car is not really interesting anymore. He puts down neat figures and for a reasonable amount, but without a slightly reduced basic version, this car will not steal buyers from Audi, BMW or Mercedes. The only possible version is the EV400 with 400 hp that goes 470 km.

Kia EV6

Kia premium? How dare you! Moreover, the Kia EV6 is secretly one that costs under 50,000 euros. However, that is the basic version that goes 400 km. If you want to spend above 50,000 euros, there are two versions worth mentioning. First up, the EV6 Plus RWD. In terms of car ‘fine’ but in terms of driving range excellent for this money: 528 km!

The version that should alleviate the suffering for the petrolhead is the EV6 GT. It has a dizzying 585 hp: just as much as a Mercedes-AMG GT R. The sprint time is also not far from this Mercedes supercar: 3.5 seconds to 100. In a Kia! This will of course cost range, although 400 km is not insanely bad. All this will cost you from 63,595 euros. Substantial for a car that would otherwise come under 45,000 euros, but justified by very potent specs.

Mercedes EQA

The Mercedes EQA costs 49,995 euros as a basic version. Is that so annoying! In any case, we thought it was enough to let him count. The next-five-euro-after-50-mile version is the front-wheel drive EQA 250. This has decent figures, but mainly intended to keep the starting price below 50,000 euros. Because you actually want either the 300 or 350 4MATIC, both of which get an extra motor for the rear axle. That helps with the sprint, especially with the most expensive 350, but in terms of range it only delivers 6 kilometers if you upgrade. In short: the differences are small, except on the sprint.

Mercedes EQC

The EQB is coming soon, so let's jump to the EQC first. The first all-electric Mercedes since it got serious (we're not counting the SLS E-Drive and the B250 Electric for a while) and in terms of numbers it's a direct competitor to the Audi e-tron 55 quattro and BMW iX3. The Mercedes does lose out on the basis of range, but the differences are not huge. However, the Mercedes is narrowly the cheapest of the three.

Tesla Model X

Then the kings of numbers. You can still buy the expensive kid of the premium electric SUV models, the Tesla Model X. Since the addition rules for expensive cars, this car is completely uninteresting for tax purposes. As a seven-seat SUV, it might still be something for you. The basic version is already quite expensive, but already has good numbers. Just under 600 km range and 0 to 100 in 3.9 seconds. If you really want to get launched, take the sports version Plaid. With 1,020 horsepower, it shoots to 100 in 2.6 seconds and that for just 10 ridges more than the Long Range. As the name suggests, the latter is slightly better in terms of driving range, but that shouldn't have a name either.

Tesla Model Y

With the little brother Tesla Model Y more of the same. This is more reasonably priced with even a small price difference between the Long Range and Performance. The Long Range comes a neat 507 km and sprinting to 100 in five seconds is also fine. Handing in something of that distance and taking only 3.7 seconds can be done for six thousand euros more. It can be that simple: do you choose range or brute force?

Volkswagen ID.4 GTX

The ID.4 is also secretly not necessarily one of the premium electric SUVs, because it is basically a car of less than 40 grand. We would like to take the top version GTX with us. The first electric VW with a sporty label is a good average in terms of specs, range and price. And here it's simple too: the ID.4 GTX is the only all-wheel drive version, hence the 299 horsepower. You can take one with you for everything from 52,990 euros.

Volvo C40 Recharge

Finally in this list about the premium electric SUV we have the Volvo C40 Recharge. The coupé brother of the XC40 is typically such a car that does nothing wrong, but also excels at nothing. With 408 horsepower and 4.7 seconds to 100, it's pretty fast, but it doesn't push any boundaries compared to a Model Y. At $57,995, it's cheaper than most on this list, but it's no budget stunner for under 50,000 euros. And the range of 442 km is also right in the middle of many rivals. In short: your love or aversion to Volvo must ensure the sales figures for the C40.
