Not everything is as it seems with the new Ford Tourneo Connect.
Car manufacturers often work together. In some cases because they belong to the same concern. In some cases to save development costs together. That is exactly what Ford and Volkswagen have done with the Ford Tourneo.
Now we need to be a little more specific, because basically the new Ford Tourneo Connect is just a Volkswagen Caddy. Ford and Volkswagen are collaborating on electric cars and they are also collaborating on commercial vehicles. In this case, the Ford Tourneo is actually a VW, but the next Amarok will secretly be a Ford (Ranger). The new Transporter and Transit will also become twins.

New Ford Tourneo Connect
That is not surprising, all manufacturers do this. Competitors such as the Mercedes-Benz Citan, Nissan Townstar and Renault Kangoo are also basically identical cars. Or what about the Peugeot Partner, Citroen Berlingo, Toyota ProAce or Opel Combo? Those cars are also more or less identical. In this particular case of the Tourneo Connect, Ford has done a good job. The car looks recognizable as a Ford with a sturdy Ford grille and Ford headlights.

The Ford Tourneo Connect is the passenger car version of the Transit Connect commercial vehicle. In terms of engines, there is a choice of three petrol and diesel engines. It starts with a 1.5 EcoBoost petrol four-cylinder with 114 hp and 220 Nm. In addition, two diesels are available. The entry-level is a 1.5 EcoBlue with 112 hp and 280 Nm. Above that is an EcoBlue with 122 hp and 320 Nm.
Not a real EcoBoost. Or EcoBlue.
If you're thinking, are those really EcoBoost and EcoBlue engines in the new Ford Tourneo Connect? No, they are VW-origin TSI and TDI engines, of course. All engines are equipped with a manual gearbox as standard. A DSG box (eh, PowerShift) is optionally possible on the 114 hp petrol and 122 hp diesel. Four-wheel drive is possible on the 122 hp diesel, provided it has a manual gearbox.
The person version will not officially appear on the market in the Netherlands. The car will be available in other markets in 2022. Ford Netherlands does reveal that the new Tourneo Connect is a harbinger of the Transit Connect, the commercial vehicle version.
