Operators will be forced to move to SIM card with Russian encryption

Telecom operators in Russia may be required to upgrade network equipment and upgrade to new SIM cards with Russian cryptography. The proposal was made by the Ministry of communications. Details it told the newspaper “Kommersant”.

The appropriate draft order of the Ministry of communications has already been published on the Federal portal of projects of normative legal acts.

According to officials of the Ministry, SIM-cards of foreign production can threaten the security of Russians. In order to protect against unauthorized access to the networks of communication and the transmitted information is proposed to be introduced on the networks of the national system of cryptographic protection, which will require switching to a new SIM card.

SIM card for which identificeret subscribers must use encryption, certified by the FSB. Such requirements also provide for the “Spring law”.

As noted by the representatives of the operators, to comply with such requirements will need investments of at least 5 billion rubles, and subscribers will have to change SIM card every 15 months as they become certified means of cryptographic protection of information.
