Biometric protection of Samsung Galaxy S8 bypassed using a photo and contact lenses

Samsung is positioning the biometric security of smartphones Galaxy and Galaxy S8 S8+ as “uncompromising” thanks to the scanner of the iris. However, the workaround was quite easy. The German hacker community Chaos Computer Club successfully completed the task and shared in the network with user manual and video with the process.

For “hacking” needed to take a picture at close range in “night” mode, the result is a photo that is similar to the infrared imagery, the generated scanner in the Galaxy S8. Then a photo printed on a normal printer, with the best result obtained on a laser printer Samsung.

And finally, the photo of the iris placed a contact lens to simulate a three-dimensional object. Design brought to the smartphone and it is successfully unlocked “learning” the eye of the master. This method can be used, including, for payment service, Samsung Pay, support the identification by the iris on Galaxy Galaxy S8 and S8+.

As a conclusion, Dirk Engling (Dirk Engling), the representative of the CCC, advised users to protect the phone standard PIN and non-biometric means, of course, if they value the data on your smartphone or want to use it for payment services.
