In the UK, many adults don't get even six hours of sleep a night. Scientists from Denmark have found that this can also affect the effectiveness of losing weight.

Specialists from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) observed 195 adults, whose age ranged from 18 to 65 years old. At the same time, all the subjects were overweight: their body mass index (BMI) was above 32. For eight weeks they followed a strict diet: they ate no more than 800 kilocalories per day.

It turned out that after a year after this diet, people who spent less than six hours a night sleeping had an increase in BMI by 1.3 points compared to those who slept longer. And those who scored low on self-reported sleep quality also increased their BMI, but by 1.2 points compared to those who sleep well.

In addition, it turned out that participants who exercised at least two hours a week were more likely to report quality and longer sleep. Before making a decision, consult with a specialist.
