In modern scientific papers, it is noted that one of the important factors affecting the emotional state of a person is nutrition. At the same time, a number of studies show that in prison, when the quality of food is improved, the number of cases of aggression decreases by 30 percent on average.

It has also been scientifically proven that a child's poor nutrition (lack of fatty acids, folic acid, etc.) can cause aggressive behavior in the future. And this brings us back to prisons.

Typically, prison diets are low in fresh and high in processed foods. Because of this, prisoners may experience a deficiency of substances responsible for brain function and aggression: these are folic acid and magnesium (found in green leafy vegetables), omega-3 fats (found in oily fish).

Five international studies demonstrate the positive impact of dietary changes on the behavior of prisoners. They were all held in prisons over the past 25 years. During the experiment, people were given nutritional supplements of vitamins, minerals, and some – omega-3. As a result, it turned out that violence in prisons decreased by 30 percent. No side effects were observed in any of them.

Scientists are doing another study in Australia right now. It is related to the study of the connection between omega-3 and the aggression of Australian prisoners. Earlier data showed that the lower the level of omega-3 in the body, the more the prisoner is prone to violent behavior. Before making a decision, consult with a specialist.
