The size of a laptop is an important parameter when choosing. Very tiny devices are, of course, great. However, sometimes it happens that there is no way to connect an external monitor, but working with some tables or software, with a bunch of small windows, is vital. Here come to the aid of laptops with displays slightly larger than the classic “typewriters”. Sixteen inches is the most, given that the dimensions of the latest generations of laptops are rapidly decreasing. In many ways, due to the frameless design, which did not bypass the hero of the review.

HONOR MagicBook 16
Despite the impressive size of the display, the dimensions of the case itself are rather modest: the thickness does not exceed two centimeters, and the width of the laptop is slightly less than forty centimeters. It even fits in a case from old 13-inch models.
HONOR MagicBook 16
You don't have to worry about the strength of the case. It is based on aluminum alloy, and only the frame around the screen is made of plastic. The design turned out to be solid, there are no complaints about the assembly. And what kind of claims can there be when a considerable part of competitors is generally “packed” in plastic?
Both USB Type-C ports are suitable for charging
The laptop has three connectors on each side. On the left are two USB Type-C and HDMI ports, on the right are two classic full-size USB Type-A and a mini-jack for connecting headphones. An ideal set for working with all kinds of peripherals. You can connect a MIDI keyboard, a sound card, and there will even be free ports. And no adapters. Yes, the MagicBook 16 does not have an Ethernet cable connector, but there is support for Wi-Fi 6e (2×2 MIMO) with a bandwidth of 160 MHz. And this, in turn, solves all problems with the speed and reliability of connecting to the network.
If you look at the laptop from below, you will see a grill for air to enter the case and three rubberized legs: one is high for almost the entire length of the case, the other two are located below and spaced apart on different sides. The difference in their height provides a barely noticeable slope, which is necessary for a more comfortable typing experience. And the lower edge of the outer side of the screen will not once again cling to the surface of the table.
The laptop's audio system consists of two speakers symmetrically located on opposite sides of the keyboard. The power of the built-in speakers and the sound quality is enough to, for example, watch a movie while lying down. As a result, we get a decent stereo sound that does not go “to the floor”. The front placement of the speakers is definitely a good solution.
Keyboard and touchpad
HONOR MagicBook 16It is difficult to find a more useful thing in a laptop, because in addition to Windows itself, the same desktop Google Chrome works with the scanner, which can confirm payment for purchases via Google Pay by fingerprinting. And filling in any other payment information is much easier this way. In terms of speed, it is approximately at the level of scanners in modern smartphones. There are no false clicks and positives, it works even with wet fingers.
And what about the touchpad? It is exactly in the center of the Honor MagicBook 16. It is not entirely clear what it is made of, but even if it is not glass, but ordinary plastic, it is very, very nice plastic. The matte surface allows the finger to glide over it without “stammering”. There is multi-touch support, the touchpad accepts up to four fingers simultaneously.
HONOR MagicBook 16
The touchpad can be used without pain just below the back. Easy retouching in a photo editor? For this, it is suitable, accuracy is enough. However, accuracy is not all that the touchpad can please. No wonder they built an NFC module into it. What is he here for?
NFC in a laptop allows you to connect your smartphone with a simple touch. No dancing with a tambourine, wires and drivers. So you can transfer information and broadcast the screen of your HONOR smartphone directly to your laptop using the “Multiscreen” function. There is support for displaying two applications at once, files between devices can be literally dragged from screen to screen. The result is a kind of ecosystem, as it is now commonly called.

A diagonal of 16.1” is impressive for a laptop. At first, it's even a little unusual for the eyes that the screen is so wide with the overall dimensions of the case. However, if you use these sizes for a week, then you can get used to them. And to return to smaller diagonals after that, I confess, is difficult. There is a lot of information, and the software loaded with windows looks much nicer than on models with screens of 13” and 14”. The main thing is to set the scale not too large in the Windows settings. Otherwise, all the charm of such a screen simply disappears, and you just observe the same amount of information, only with huge letters and huge buttons.
HONOR MagicBook 16
Is Full HD resolution enough for such a diagonal? Yes, it is quite. And it seems that 16.1 ”is the very line after which you don’t really want something more, and you shouldn’t agree to something less either. It's worth keeping in mind that this is still an ultrabook for all occasions, and not a full-fledged workstation for designers and photographers. Or go through the existing IPS-matrix with a colorimeter, if super-nuances are more important for you than how colors are displayed visually, “for the soul”. But the brightness margin of the local matrix is decent (320 cd/m2), which allows you to work in fairly bright light. And the matte surface perfectly hides glare.
HONOR MagicBook 16
The viewing angles of the screen are surprisingly large. At maximum values, only the brightness of the backlight drops, the colors do not change. Black remains black, no inversion.
HONOR MagicBook 16
I liked the hinge mechanism that holds the screen. It is quite tight, which eliminates vibrations during aggressive typing. You can even open your laptop with one hand. True, I did not succeed on the first try.
Performance_and_autonomy
“You can live with 8 GB of RAM on Windows but sad.” Guided by this principle, Honor engineers decided to equip their offspring with 16 GB of RAM at once, transferring this laptop from the category of a “typewriter without tasks” to a class of devices quite suitable for creative work.
For a rough understanding of the resource intensity of modern applications for creating content, I will give a typical situation from my experience. The running FL Studio application (for creating music), with a set of not the most heavy plug-ins, quietly takes 6-7 GB of RAM from my computer. Add your software here as you wish, and return to the first sentence of this paragraph.
Okay, enough RAM. But what about performance? Spoiler: not bad considering the price.

In the Cinebench R23 multi-core test, the processor feels confident, processing the test scene quite quickly. The final result allows you to compete with other similar chips, despite the fact that competitors have an advantage both in the number of cores and in the number of threads. And in comparison with the classic “four cores, eight threads” set in this segment, the difference is obvious. This time AMD did not disappoint.
Does the processor “drop” frequencies strongly when working under load? When operating from the network, the operating frequencies will be kept at 3.2 GHz with a heat dissipation of about 45 watts. Away from the outlet, you will have to rely on 2.7-2.8 GHz with the processor heating up to 67-69 degrees. Heat dissipation, respectively, will also fall. Up to about 27-30 W.
What to prepare for if you are going to carry a laptop everywhere and work from the most unpredictable places, leaving the power supply at home? With a constantly active Wi-Fi connection, an average brightness level and unpretentious surfing with rare photo processing, you can count on 8-9 hours. Well, if the charge literally has nowhere to go, then some kind of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will discharge the laptop in one and a half to two hours. Who said it would be easy?

Honor MagicBook 16 is a great laptop for lots of office work and not the most difficult creative tasks. Rendering heavy 3D scenes is not really about him, but he was not created for this either.

It is such a versatile companion for all occasions. Do you write lyrics? A hefty screen and a comfortable keyboard are at your disposal. Do you want to relax and just consume content without thinking about work matters? Nine hours of autonomy and stereo sound will help you have a good time.
Add a damn fast SSD to a good chip, and Windows 11 out of the box (MagicBook 16 was designed for it from the start, not upgraded from Windows 10) and you get a laptop that has few analogues. Metal strong case, NFC and a fairly bright display. Great for the price.
