The patent documentation shows a device that has two hinge mechanisms. When unfolded, it makes available a huge screen, consisting of three separate sections. When folded, the device looks like a traditional smartphone, similar to the Surface Duo.
There are no details from Microsoft on how the hinge mechanism works.
Interestingly, other manufacturers like Samsung are also rumored to be working on their own foldable device of a similar type. Since we saw only a patent from Microsoft, it is not yet known when such a device will enter the market, or whether it will be released at all.
