According to a specialist, we are talking about the so-called TMAO – trimethylamine N-oxide. As a result of a large-scale study, scientists have concluded that the bacteria that process red meat, Emergencia timonensis, play an important role in its formation. At the same time, they are practically absent in the intestines of vegetarians.

As part of the study, experts even transplanted these bacteria into the intestines of mice following a plant diet. As a result, the concentration of TMAO increased almost immediately. This, in turn, increased the risk of blood clots and cholesterol plaques.
