Teams of scientists from SUSU (Russia) and Xi'an Jiaotong University (China) have developed the most optimal welding method for rust-resistant steel. The results of the study were published in the International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology.
The study examined steel A606, or Corten, COR-TEN. It was created recently, and the main property of this type of steel is resistance to rusting (atmospheric corrosion). This is ensured by the addition of copper and phosphorus to its composition, as a result of which an oxide layer forms on the surface, which prevents corrosion. It is mainly used to create thin sheets, which are then applied in areas such as court proceedings, the creation of tanks, pipes, shipping containers, landscaping, construction.
In a published scientific article, the parameters for the optimal method of welding steel, which make it strong and resistant to the rusting process, have been identified. These are voltage, wire feed speed, welding speed. All work during the experiment was carried out in the laboratory of the department “ Equipment and technology of welding production '' on a special Fanuc GMAW mechanism.
