What could go wrong if you start tinkering yourself and realize a frunk as an option on your electric car.
The advantage of an electric car is that no large combustion engine takes up a lot of space in the design of the car. As a result, you see with many EVs that there is an extra storage space at the front of the car. That's called a frunk. But there are quite a few EVs that don't have anything like that at all. With some creativity you can make one yourself.
Your leasing company or dealer will probably not be happy with it. But the ladies and gentlemen of the Austrian Frunk.at have nothing to do with that. This company makes it possible to build your own frunk. They remove the cover plate and replace it with a custom-made storage space.
For example, the Hyundai Kona Electric and the Kia e-Niro are two lease favorites among the Dutch. Both electric cars do not have a frunk, for which the Austrian company has devised an alternative.
It is an aftermarket solution. You would think that car manufacturers would have a reason to have extra storage space under the 'bonnet'. omitted on models without frunk. In short, it is at your own risk. The makers say that the frunk does not create extra heat under the hood. They do recommend removing the frunk and replacing the plastic cover when your EV goes to the garage for maintenance. That does sound a bit shady..
