And we also immediately have the prices for you of the brand new BMW 2 Series.

The outgoing generation 2 Series was loved by many. Logically, it is a concept that we hardly see in 2021. A compact coupé or convertible with rear-wheel drive and, if desired, an in-line six under the hood. In the case of the M2 Coupé good for a power of 370 hp. What’s not to like?

When the 1 Series with rear-wheel drive disappeared from the scene and a front-wheel drive took its place, it became exciting for a while. What happened to the 2 Series then? Spyshots already hinted that luckily we could expect a successor. That successor is now on your screen in the form of the second generation BMW 2 Series.

Despite the nice face and butt of the old 2 Series, BMW was not afraid to change with the new. The result is a front and rear that many people will have to get used to. Whether you eventually like it is of course up to you. From the photos, BMW is most proud of the front.

What we can't fault is the powertrain. Because that's just plain thick. A six-cylinder petrol engine and a chassis that is partly taken over from the current 4 Series. Well, cry a little more then. The M240i is the provisional top model and always has xDrive. If you want six-cylinder and rear-wheel drive, you have to wait until the new M2 comes.

New BMW 2 Series – engines

With the introduction, the M2 is not there yet. There is, however, a choice of another trio. The 220i, the 220d and the M240i xDrive. The 220i has a four-cylinder petrol engine with 184 hp. The 220d has a four-cylinder diesel with 190 hp and 400 Nm of torque. A 230i with 245 hp will follow later. There is no self-switching. The new BMW 2 Series is equipped with the 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission as standard. The M240i xDrive has the Steptronic Sport.

The provisional party issue is the M240i xDrive. With a 3.0-liter six-in-line turbo petrol engine, good for 374 hp and 500 Nm of torque. That is already more power than the outgoing M2 had. The coupé accelerates to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. The top speed has not been discussed, this will undoubtedly be limited to 250 km/h. Standard on this model is an M Sport suspension, M Sport braking system and an M Sport differential. If you want an adaptive chassis with electronically controlled dampers, you will have to pay extra. The M240i xDrive comes standard on 19-inch alloy wheels. 20-inch is also possible, but then you have to grab the M Performance catalog.

Grown

The new BMW 2 Series has neatly emptied its plate . The coupé has grown somewhat compared to its predecessor. The 2 Series is 4,537mm long and 1,838mm wide. That's 105mm longer and 64mm wider. In addition, the new 2 Series is 28 mm lower. The wheelbase has increased by 51mm to 2,741mm. Track widths have also increased. All in all a somewhat larger car.

Interior

The interior has made great strides compared to the previous generation. Where the outgoing 2 Series had an interior with a lot of hard materials, the new 2 Series has been given a much more mature look. In any case, you don't have to leave it out for the inside. It won't feel as soft as its big brother, the 4 Series, but it all looks sleek.

New BMW 2 Series prices

BMW also immediately has the prices of the new 2 Series. Well so nice. It starts at €47,645 for the 220i. Above that is the 220d with a price tag of € 50,122. The 240i xDrive Coupé will cost at least €75,336.
