No more new Jaguars until 2025

No new Jaguars

Hopefully the current range will appeal to you. There will be no more new Jaguars for the time being.

The transition from combustion engine to electric is different for every premium brand. BMW started very, very early (with the quirky i3), but forgot to carry on. At Audi and Mercedes they are suddenly hard at work. Jaguar is somewhere in between. The I-PACE arrived in 2018. Since then, it has been a bit quiet around electric Jaguars.

If you expect a new electric Jaguar this year, you will come home from a cold fair. In fact, for a new Jaguar you will have to wait until 2025. That reports the French Le Monde. The models that are available now will remain until 2025 in any case. The number of versions and engines may be reduced. It is not the intention that factories will close. However, there will be 7,000 on the street: the British brand wants from 42,000 to 35,000 factory employees.

Reimagine

It falls under the “Reimagine” plan. That's not a bad Scooter remix by John Lennon, but an integral plan to get Jaguar back on top. All models that will appear after 2025 will be fully electric. Not only that, the British brand will also operate higher in the market. Instead of being an original competitor to The German Three, Jaguar wants to go head to head with Bentley!

Jaguar admits its loss. They sold 90,000 cars last year, against a forecast of 200,000 units. They lost the race with platforms, engines and countless body styles against Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Jaguar therefore wants to focus on what they are good at: building luxury cars. Strangely enough, that news is accompanied by the fact that the new (all-electric) Jaguar XJ has finally been fired and that a joint project with Land Rover is also not going ahead.

No new Jaguars, works that?

It remains to be seen whether this strategy will work. The range is certainly not outdated, but some models are already starting to get older. Alfa Romeo has shown that it is very difficult to lure old customers back to the showrooms if you do not have new models for a while. Strangely enough, Jaguar's biggest hope is the new Land Rover Defender and the just-unveiled Range Rover.

Those two models are just new and are both very popular in their segment. Hopefully those two models can generate enough revenues to allow Jaguar to implement its entire strategy. Jaguar currently has the XE (2015), XF (2015), E-Pace (2017), F-Pace (2016), F-Type (2012) and I-Pace (2018) in showrooms.
