The heart transplantation saves thousands of lives, but waiting a donor organ could last for quite a long time. To live up to this moment help of an artificial heart, which already exist in the USA, but cost crazy money. Researchers from Russian military plant “Progress” has mastered the production of miniature pumps, which with their two-time low cost provide at least two years of life. Artificial heart is designed for children, and is comparable in size with the candy. To build an accurate clock mechanisms as required special conditions.

These conditions are essential for extreme accuracy, because the pumps consist of components the size of poppy seeds, which are joined together under the microscope. In order not to scratch them, engineers use brass instruments and wooden sticks — otherwise, the mechanism may form blood clots that can lead to death.
The case is made of titanium and protects the rotors, which rest on poles of an alloy of cobalt, chromium and molybdenum. The design is practically eternal and does not produce a single particles of dust, the inner surface is polished and coated with a diamond coating. The walls of the device are hidden sensors that monitor the rotational speed of the rotors and control the bloodstream.
From the pump go two pipes that are covered by surgical cloth and fused with the walls of the blood vessels. Remote control an artificial heart located outside, just below the ribs, and connected through armoured cable. Besides that, there are two batteries, one working and one spare, charge which is enough for 12 hours. The package of the artificial heart also includes a belt for carrying the remote control and batteries, wrenches titanium and surgical scalpel.
At the moment the pumps were tested on bulls and pigs — according to the researchers, the animals feel fine. When they are used on humans, is still unknown.
