#CES | AMD introduced its new flagship graphics card and processors Ryzen 3rd generation

Company AMD has presented at CES-2019 two new items, which was expected by many. First, the company announced the world’s first graphics card that runs on the GPU, built using a 7-nm process. And secondly, AMD introduced its 3rd generation of processors Ryzen (Ryzen 3), whose architecture is also the first in the world uses a 7-nm process technology. What to expect from new products? Let’s deal.

Let’s start with the graphics card. The first graphics card on the basis of the 7nm process technology is called Radeon VII (“seven”) and refers to the flagship solution of the company.

AMD note used in it architecture Vega of second generation allows to achieve 25 percent more overall performance using the same power consumption compared to previous generation flagship – Vega 64.

His words, the head of AMD Lisa su confirmed by demonstration of the performance of the new accelerator in the game Devil May Cry 5 demo which was running in 4K resolution at maximum graphics settings. The President of the company said that the card is capable of holding “more than 60 frames per second” with these settings, but the greater part of the time the FPS counter was around 100 frames, rarely gray to 75-90.

New got 60 GPU compute units (a total of 3840 stream processors) running at 1.8 GHz, and 16 GB of memory standard HBM2, the total bandwidth of which is 1 TB/s.

The graphics card supports technologies such as FreeSync 2, Async Compute, Rapid Packed Math and Shader Intrinsics, and is also equipped with ports DisplayPort and HDMI. According to the demonstrated at the exhibition graphics, Radeon VII will offer 25% performance increase in Fortnite and 35% increase in Battlefield V on Radeon RX Vega 64.

On sale Radeon VII will arrive on February 7. The cost of the new graphics leader AMD will be $ 699. For the money the package will have limited time to engage three games: Devil May Cry 5, Resident Evil 2 and The Division 2.

Following the presentation of the new flagship graphics Lisa su announced the long-awaited 7nm processors Ryzen 3, adding that their deliveries will begin in mid-2019. According to the company, this is the first 7-nm slot CPU with PCIe 4.0 x16 slot. In addition, the head of AMD said about the new layout of the chip, showing one without the heat-spreading lid.

Under it, as it turned out, there are two crystal. The small one is the 7-nm 8-core 16-thread processor Ryzen 3rd generation (that the model is not specified), and the bigger one – I/O module, which is used to support the CPU the current generation of motherboards for socket AM4. Thus, the new processors will not require changing the platform – just enough to pull out the old crystal and put the new one. Savings.

In the framework of the presentation was carried out a direct comparison of the new Ryzen 3rd generation with the current flagship Intel Core i9-9900K in synthetic test Cinebench R15. The comparison showed that the new AMD uses about 30 percent less electricity (almost 133 vs 180 W), but it provides the same level of performance (2057 points against 2040 at Intel). However, it is better to wait for the new AMD processors on sale and only then make any conclusions. At the same time can not but rejoice the fact that the company declares its readiness to compete with the best chips of his rival. At least in terms of performance, since prices for the new processors Ryzen 3rd generation, as well as their lineup Lisa su, unfortunately is not voiced.
