#CES | told and showed Nvidia for the presentation

Before the International exhibition of electronics CES, some companies traditionally hold a media event, entirely dedicated to their new products. In the framework of the CES-2019 the first among such companies was Nvidia who made several anticipated announcements. Speaking to reporters CEO Jen-Hsun Huang spoke about how last summer the 20-th line of graphics cards GeForce, announced that the technology of ray tracing will be used in laptops, and also shared some good news about proprietary synchronization technology image G-Sync.

His speech Huang began with the announcement of the graphics card middle segment RTX 2060. Novelty is equipped with 6 GB of GDDR6 VRAM 240 and uses of tensor kernels intended for calculations of AI and neural networks – a feature of the new architecture of Turing on which is built the entire line of graphics cards RTX. According to the head Nvidia, card middle segment is capable of delivering 60 frames per second on high settings in 1440p resolution and enabled active technology is ray tracing, which has become a signature feature of the entire 20-th line cards RTX. In General, its performance is better than GTX 1070 Ti previous generation. While it is faster GTX 1060 at an average of 60 percent (depending on application).

The recommended value of RTX 2060 is $ 349, which is more than $ 100 below the graphics accelerator of higher rank — RTX 2070, for which Nvidia is asking $ 499. On sale graphics card RTX 2060 version in the Founders Edition will arrive on January 15. The kit will include one game (either Battlefield V or Anthem). Most likely, soon after various Nvidia partners will market their own versions of the news.

Following the announcement of RTX 2060 Huang said that the graphics card GeForce RTX you can find in laptops. The first laptops with graphics Max-Q-versions 2080 RTX, RTX, and RTX 2060 2070 will go on sale January 29. It is expected that the market will be offered more than 40 new models with new graphics. The first models are already introduced to the company as ASUS, Fujitsu, Samsung, Acer and Razer. Prices for new items range from 1500 to 4000 dollars depending on manufacturer and specifications.

The final touch on the whole very short presentation was the announcement of the arrival of the support of proprietary technology Nvidia G-Sync on some monitors that use FreeSync technology, a competing solution from AMD. In short, both technologies perform the same function: sinhroniziruete the refresh rate of the monitor with the number of frames issued by the graphics card. Technologies are incompatible among themselves. In other words, Nvidia G-Sync only works with Nvidia graphics, FreeSync with AMD Radeon.

Another important difference is that FreeSync is completely free (this takes with monitor manufacturers money because they use FreeSync in their models), while for G-Sync requires a Nvidia with display manufacturers a price, which ultimately increases the final cost of the monitors (average $ 200). So FreeSync monitors and graphics AMD looks from a financial point of view, more attractive, so buyers often choose a bundle. Obviously, Nvidia this situation do not like, so she decided to make some concessions. To support implementation of G-Sync on monitors with FreeSync means that users will not need to buy a special monitor that supports G-Sync, if for example, they will want to change graphics Radeon to GeForce.

Implement support for the technology on the monitors FreeSync Nvidia is going through the software, releasing the appropriate driver on January 15. Unfortunately, not all monitors with support for FreeSync receives support G-Sync. The reason is simple – most monitors simply do not meet the standards of G-Sync. Having tested more than 400 models of monitors (the company plans to test more than 100 models) on the market, Nvidia took only 12 models: Acer XFA240, Acer XG270HU, XV273K Acer, Acer XZ321Q, Agon, AG241QG4, AOC G2590FX, MG278Q Asus, Asus VG258Q, VG278Q Asus, Asus XG248, XG258 Asus, BenQ XL2740.
