The first aircraft Tupolev

October 21, 1879 Thomas Edison conducted a successful test of the advanced they are incandescent bulbs. 21 Oct 1923 first flew the ANT-1 aircraft designer Andrei Tupolev. The design of this model was first used kolchougaluminium, although mainly used wood and cloth. The plane was driven by Anzani engine producing 35 horsepower (26 kW).

ANT-1 was capable of carrying one person on Board and developed a speed of 125 km/h with a maximum range of 540 kilometers. After several test flights the engine failed and the aircraft was placed in a hangar, where he stayed until 1937. And exactly at the same day, 21 Oct designer Tupolev was arrested on suspicion of espionage, and the only instance of ANT-1 was destroyed. This date has become particularly controversial in the history of Soviet aviation.

21 Oct 1966 the first flight of the jet, the Yakovlev “Yak-40”. The test specimen was built in 1965, however, the approval of test programs and obtaining the necessary permits took a long time. During the first flight the aircraft showed excellent controllability and reliability, and in 1967 it was put into production at an aircraft factory in Saratov.

Yak-40 was created as a passenger aircraft for regional lines, the first modification had only 24 seats. But later began to produce models with higher take-off weight, in which the number of passenger seats was increased to 32.
