Review headphones Alpha&Delta D6 — neutrality and durability

Than I am attracted to Alpha&Delta as a company is willing to give as much as possible for the price of their headphones, and secondly, the ability to make a really unusual sound. After a review of their budget proposals D3 came time to talk about the flagship D6.

In the older model, the developers have set ourselves several tasks (and successfully solved). According to the company, the headphones should be neutral, detailed and not colored sound, but very strong physically. Well, it has affordable price tag, despite everything written below, and the models have something to surprise, they cost only $ 95.

Specifications

  • Emitter: 10 mm, dynamic
  • Impedance: 16Ω
  • Rated power: 1 mW
  • Frequency range: 10 Hz – 40 kHz
  • Sensitivity: 105±1 dB/mW
  • Cable: 1.2 m, silver-plated LITZ
  • Plug: 3.5 mm TRS

Packing and delivery

In terms of design boxes Alpha&Delta slightly moved away from “traditional canons”, making a cardboard packaging with transparent plastic cover that allows you to immediately see the headphones. Except the last package included:

  • leather case
  • leather loop with snap for winding wire
  • ear-hook
  • clip for attaching the cable to clothing
  • 10 pairs of different nozzles in the range

As in the case of D3, the developers have tried to give the maximum possible accessories, and, as with D3, the cover here is incredibly cool.

Design and comfortable wearing

Alpha&Delta decided not to experiment with the design and D6 made as simple as possible in appearance. Headphones are designed in “classic” cylinders made of metal that provides the necessary share of edgy and enviable strength. The overall quality of the performance — well, it is clear that during Assembly have tried to anticipate everything that can affect the durability (headphone three-year warranty): protection from broken bones, all the joints of the plug and the splitter is made with emphasis on maximum strength.

As with the form of the wise did not, headphones will easily sit in almost any ear, ensuring a comfortable wearing and noise-a little above average.

Above all, what deserves special mention is the wire. It is not made replaceable, but the quality in this case speaks for itself. The headphones uses an 8-conductor wire of silver plated copper, very soft and comfortable. It is beautifully and gossip, in addition to the spectacular appearance, encouraged by the lack of microphone effect and good cold resistance. In General, it is no exaggeration to say that this is one of the best wiring headphones regardless of price range.

Sound

To listen following equipment was used.

  • Yulong DA9 and Resonessence Labs Concero HP in the role of DAC and amplifier
  • Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2016 as the source
  • Fidelia in the role of player
  • Lotoo PAW Gold, theBit OPUS#2, Astell&Kern, A&ultima SP1000 and the role of other portable players
  • Recording high-resolution Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky have The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)

Before listening headphones were heated for 48 hours, the change in sound was for the first 6-8 hours.

In D6, the developers tried to implement their understanding of “high quality sound”: the neutrality of the submission, the detail, the slope in micro-contrast and everything else follows from this. To achieve the goals they used quality speaker and specially designed double inner chamber, which gave a considerable contribution to the flow.

Bass in headphones is not accented, so the model is clearly not for those who like an extra hump in the lower part of the frequency response. In General, the bass is fast, very dynamic, very decent for its price separation of instruments and plans also good and the textures, and depth (adjusted for speed). Despite the lack of a lift, the bass here does not suffer from the reinforcement of lightness and, when necessary, is able to show very good for its price, the physicality, albeit in a slightly “dried” form. NCH practically buzzing, so hearing it takes a few minutes to adapt to the absence of the usual for most inexpensive dynamic hum.

Midrange is also neutral, without any color, but the emotions inherent in the recording, as well as the features of the tools, D6 transmit perfectly. The reverse is also true — a bad record with the problems in the mastering and mixdown will sound bad, these headphones are not trying to hide something and mask. An imaginary scene for this price impressive, more average in width and depth, with a good division of plans and positioning tools.

Vernacularly range here is not for fans of “comfortable” sound, despite the fact that HF then can not be called very sharp, they have good length and are served without trying them smooth, so on the problematic tracks all defects will be demonstrated. In turn, on good recordings, this model has good resolution treble, natural attacks and attenuation, as well as the beginnings typical of expensive models of “stratification”. Which ultimately gives and airy, and very realistic transmission of overtones.

Comparison this time, perhaps, to paint makes no sense, D6 is headphones with the flow rare in this price segment, so all the mapping will be in the style of “well, not similar”.

Compatibility

In theory, of course, to use these headphones with smartphones and other “easy” sources is possible, but in practice this is unlikely to be a lot of sense: neutral, detailed headphones clearly designed for players at least initial-middle segment. However, I think that people think about models with a serving, it and understand it.

D6 stylistically very versatile, the main thing that a potential owner arranged unembellished presentation. But the recording quality of the model is quite demanding to listen to them poorly-mixed tracks little sense, so that “the scale of fault-finding” here at least 8 out of 10.

Traditionally some tracks for example

Norah Jones — Come Away with Me. I could not figure out what could be better than good female vocals, a demo for the neutral and detailed headphone. Usually “portatili” love in such cases is to use Amber Rubarth, but somehow she told me “not go”, so I chose the slightly more famous singer and it has paid off: rich microdatabase vocals just come alive in the performance of A&D D6.

Miles Davis — Summertime. I have noticed that the most difficult tests for headphones — this is not some shaft batalnij guitar or, say, a Symphony orchestra asked for help on tools, but here are well written tracks with a light background and one or two tools. That they can be better seen synthetical inherent in many models of headphones, and the farther, the more I notice and relate to serious deficiencies. Fortunately, the characters of this review to cope with the trumpet of miles very, very well.

The Rolling Stones — Paint it, Black. Speaking “in General”, I don’t like the stones, but in particular this track, with the data specific headphone sounds so good that I just couldn’t miss it. The separation of instruments, their diversity, drive, melody, distinctive bass sounds 2:20 — all data right IEM is decorated with new colors.

Insights

Headphones, created with an eye on neutrality and smooth sound — a rare visit in the reviews and in the price range “to 100 $” and so well made, like a D6, so does the deficit. Of course, this filing is not for everyone, but if you are looking for it, skip these headphones you cannot go there.
