China has built a supercomputer capable of performing a trillion calculations per second

Chinese scientists have set a new ambitious goal — by 2020 to complete the development of a supercomputer Tianhe-3, whose computational power can reach trillion operations per second, — informs the website of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The trillion operations per second is a lot, and now the world no country is not so fast supercomputers. China continues to lead the field of supercomputers, creating a very powerful machine faster and overtaking Japan and the United States. Most importantly supercomputers always find application in various industries. So, released a few years ago, Tianhe-1 serves 1600 research teams from different cities and helps to lead the Chinese 1200 innovative projects, simultaneously helping to develop drugs, predicting weather, and performing other important tasks.

Despite the US imposed a ban on the export of Chinese chips for supercomputers, the Chinese were soon able to create their own chips, so the increasing capacity of supercomputers continues, and again there is no need of supply of foreign components, supercomputers are built much faster. In 2018 are going to be commissioned Sunway Exascale, which will replace the fastest computer of China Sunway TaihuLight.

Now China accounts for the largest number of supercomputers — 202.
