Increasingly, people are trying to make a robotics and art. Not so long ago we told you about a robot-conductor who has performed on stage with the Symphony orchestra, legendary tenor Andrea Bocelli, now let’s talk about the band of industrial robots, which recently recorded their first album. This group is called Automatica and it was created by new Zealand musician Nigel Stanford.

Nigel was always open to experiment and loved the different techniques. In her Studio, the musician often experimented with sound waves and the various speakers, creating stunning visualizations for his compositions and posting them on YouTube. But when he got their hands on three industrial robots from German company Kuka Roboter, his attitude towards work has changed overnight. The main objective of a musician was creating music with the help of their new metal friends.

To teach industrial robots to play musical instruments was not so easy. After all, before they were used for vehicle Assembly and welding operations. But, armed with the right software and learning to program, the musician managed to adapt them to your needs. In this he was helped by software packages Robot Animator and Maya 3D. The robots eventually learned to play five different instruments, including piano, drums, bass guitar, synthesizer and DJ turntables. The most challenging to master, musician, steel guitar and vinyl turntables.

We offer to your attention debut music video, in which a group of Automatica, led by their leader presents to you the first fruits of their many months of work.

Below you will also find several short videos about teaching robots to play the instruments. Here, an example of a robot game on the bass guitar.
