How to Access Google Drive Offline: 10 Steps

Don’t you want to be able to access your Google Drive files without an Internet connection, such as when you are on the plane or god forbid your Wi-Fi router stops working? Well now you can with Google Drive offline! You can create,view,and edit your Google Drive files offline on your Windows PC/Mac through Google Chrome, or just be able to view them on your Android/iOS device!

Method 1

Windows PC or Mac

    If you have not done so already, download Google Chrome for your Windows PC/Mac. Google Drive Offline does not work for any other browser such as Safari and Internet Explorer, except Chrome.

    Open Google Chrome and go to the Google Drive website and sign in with your Google Account if necessary.

    On the left-hand side of the screen where the Google Drive folders are located (My Drive, Starred,etc.), click on the More tab. A list of options will descend under it.

    Select Offline.

    If you have not done so already, get the Google Drive web app by manually going to the Chrome Webstore or just by clicking on the button, Get the Web App. A pop-up will appear with the title Confirm New Extension. Click Add.

    Select Enable Offline. After Google Drive has finished initializing offline status, it will automatically sync your Google documents, presentations, and spreadsheets to the Offline tab from your My Drive tab. It does not currently sync any other files such as PDF files, audio files, video files, Microsoft Documents, etc. Now you will be able to view, edit, or create Google documents, presentations, and spreadsheets offline! If you edit a Google document, presentation, or spreadsheet, the changes will be saved in the offline copy of the file. Any new Google Drive files you create or upload will also be synced in Offline. The next time you are on online, all the changes you made offline will be synced in My Drive.

    If you had not done so already, get the Google Drive mobile app from the App Store/Google Play.

    Open up the app and sign in with your Google Account if necessary.

    At the bottom-right hand corner of a file (it’s in a form of a box), click on the information button(it’s an upside down i inside a circle). A rectangle will appear at the right of the screen with options such as Print, Share and other options. Go down to where there is the option Make Available Offline with a switch next to it with the two options On and Off. Press the switch to switch it from Off to On. Now that file will be available for viewing offline. The Google Drive mobile app does not currently support the creating or editing of Google Drive files offline.
