Chiron versus Veyron
Bugatti has presented in Geneva its new which hypercar, the successor of the Veyron. But how new is that Chiron?

No, of course, developed Bugatti the Chiron, not from a blank sheet of paper. The car leans heavily on the Veyron, what the development costs quite a press. Profit has VAG never made with the Veryon and that has to with Chiron going to change. Not only because this even is more expensive, also because the car is a lot cheaper to develop. In addition, Bugatti also more copies are going to build: 500, where they of the Veyron, with effort, 450 copies managed to sell. Why VAG is so high stakes? We do not know, we only hope that we are about two or three years, not every two weeks to be bothered with a new Special Edition.

Bugatti has done its best, the Chiron a very different look than the Veyron, but those who look closely will see that the cars have some parts to share. Seem to the windscreen and the side windows one-on-one inherited and also the shape of the doors seem to match. In Chiron, they are at the bottom, something else formed, probably, the frame is the same, and the sheet metal new. The image below shows the monocoque and sub-frame units of the Veyron and I have a suspicion that it is necessary also in the Chiron. Bugatti has yet to have any pictures of the chassis released, so a definite answer I can not give.

Also technically the cars are of course strongly related to each other. The 7993cc-measuring W16 with four turbos of the Veyron is also in the back of the Chiron. This block resulted in the first Veyrons 1000 hp, a bit later for the Super Sport and the Grand Sport Vitesse was increased to 1200 hp. In the Chiron brings the block up to 1500 hp and that capital gain is primarily due to an improved luchtinlaattraject in combination with better cooling.

The big problem of the Veyron was that the shape of the car is already established, as is the performance potential (with a top of 400+ km/h), but that the technology is not yet fully developed. Especially the cooling turned out to be a big problem, in total there were 10 radiators and I also need that did not yet have. The number is not changed in the Chiron, the placement. Per minute more than 750 litres of coolant through the radiators pumped. Not that there is so much liquid is present, moreover, it makes per minute, so multiple laps through the cooling system.

There may also be more air (and therefore fuel) to the cylinders by an improved luchtinlaattraject and other turbo’s. The four turbos were working in parallel on the Veyron -one turbo per four cylinders, good to see on the picture below – but are in a serial arrangement in the Chiron. Under the 3800 revolutions per minute, the air per eight cylinders compressed by one turbo, above that speed the air further compressed by the second turbo. As a result, the temperature of the turbo significantly, and the enhanced cooling weather around the corner. Just to give an idea what megasucker that Chiron is: per minute can the car 60,000 litres of air by turbo’s cylinders in the presses!

A smaller, but nevertheless important difference with the Veyron is in the uitlaattraject. The titanium exhaust system of the Chiron gives less resistance because the catalytic converters are a lot bigger than before. That 60,000 litres of air must, of course, out again!

Of course, there are even more differences, such as the larger brakes, cheaper tires and refreshed interior. All in all, one can say that Bugatti the Veyron even has studied all the shortcomings thoroughly addressed without a completely new car to aspire to. And that is not a bad thing by the way, there is already so much beauty arose from evolution.
