Old wine in new bottles, or is this an engine design that was actually better than the conventional in-line engine? The Japanese inventors claim.

This 4-in-1 engine is designed by Namikoshi Electronics, with the design initially on the aggregatormarkt founded. Yet they have themselves convinced that there are also automotive applications for their motordesign. Therefore, let us take a look at how this transistor works.

The layout of the pistons and connecting rods corresponds to a four-cylinder boxer engine; two on the left, two on the right. In the middle is just not a conventional crankshaft. The pistons are connected to a planetary gear set in a central unit, supported by a ball bearing. This brings the forces then about a central axis, similar to that of a conventional crankshaft.

The purpose of this arrangement is to reduce the friction and vibrations. The downside is that there is a maintenance and wear of the ball bearing in the ‘heart’ of your engine depends. To replace this almost always means you have the engine out of the car should scoop up to them.

What is also striking is that the pistons per side in tandemmodus to move, so exactly the same battle. As the two left-hand pistons, the two pistons on the right side to the outside. Namikoshi claims that the number of wrijvingspunten this decreases the vibrations are reduced to a minimum. However, if we view the video then it seems as if this thing of imbalance from collapses at 8,000 rpm.

The conceptmotor has an engine displacement of 1500 cc, and weighs about 90 kilograms. Performance or consumption figures has Enriched not released, so if this is really more efficient or a higher efficiency than current engines in cars, it remains guesswork.
