Mazda RX-01
Twenty years ago. We write era MX-5 and RX-7. Mazda came up with a special concept called the RX-01.

The Japanese car manufacturer showed a concept at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1995. The red cars had to be the next generation RX-7 proposals. Fortunately(?) was the concept never into production and remained the famous RX-7 name saved.

Mazda spooned the well known 1.3 litre rotary engine in the concept, that was good for 220 hp. The Japanese placed the block behind the front axle for perfect weight distribution. A strategy for the brand for years to apply, among others, in the latest MX-5. The car had better steering than the RX-7 that was on the market was sold. However, drew Mazda in 2002, the power cord from the model, and there was until now no real successor. Luckily the Japanese have the proverb “a fox loses his hair but not his strokes,” good apply. Two months ago, the brand with the RX-Vision concept that a wankel engine will get.

Who the pictures is in late work will see the typical Mazda-lines in coming back, but the undersigned feels also what existing Honda stuff. Really beautiful can I not call and I’ll be sure not to mourn that Mazda, the concept was not taken into production. If you do it, do it well. The RX-Vision is the positive piece of candy, where one for twenty years been waiting for.

Was the RX-01 is than a trash can design? No, on the contrary. Mazda used the basis of the concept for the later RX-Evolving (1999) what is finally in place again, the RX-8 would be in 2003. And that model had I certainly do not want to miss. Was that silly conceptgebakje from ’95 still somewhere good for.
