Skoda Yeti
The Skoda Yeti is a compact SUV which we at the end of 2009 for the first time in the showroom saw. It is also the first and only SUV that Skoda has built.

The name is a reference to the “abominable snowman”, but no one knows why. Maybe because it also in the most difficult of circumstances he stands for. It is a competitor for cars like the Nissan Qashqai and the Kia Sportage. In recent years, won the Yeti and the many consumer awards for reliability and customer satisfaction.

The Yeti is in 2014, slightly refreshed, with the tough variant “Yeti Outdoor” came on the market. The Outdoor is tough terreinvariant with standard 4×4 drive, while the regular Yeti a slightly more civilised appearance.

The Yeti was a offroader but four-wheel drive was optional on the entry-level models. For the benzinerijders was that the 105 hp 1.2 TSI, for dieselrijders the 110 hp diesel (later replaced by the 105 hp greenline diesel. There were petrol engines up to 160 hp are available, the most powerful diesel delivers 170 horsepower.

Pros

  • Good handling characteristics
  • High is
  • Not a “dime a dozen”
  • Solid and reliable

Issues

  • The 1.2 TSI to 2013 was quite notorious for its oil consumption and problems with the timing chain (the usual condition in these engines). From 2013 is a 1.2 TSI with timing belts supplied, that it seems better to do.
  • The DSG transmission enables sometimes for problems due to early into a high gear to want to switch. To solve this with a software update.
  • The DSG automatic transmission of the early years is piece. In China and Australia are hundreds of thousands of cars with five-year warranty on the DSG. In Europe this does not happen. If the car makes unusual noises when switching back from four to three, three to two and two to one should the alarm bells go ringing. Also if there is outside the car, a strange metallic sound is heard when over thresholds and bumps is being driven, this is a sign that the DSG on its last legs.
  • The DSG bake communicates sometimes doesn’t with the brake pedal and the ECU, allowing the car sometimes, just after pulling away from a standstill turning, for example, the middle of intersections. This problem seems to be in Europe not to come, but be quite attentive. In the rest of the world, Volkswagen, tens of thousands of DSG’s have been recalled to fix this.
  • The EGR valve on the 2.0 TDI is sensitive to pollution.
  • The capacitors of the air are susceptible to stone chipping. In addition, there is a while to the poor quality aluminum used, but the cars that these bad capacitors have been under warranty new provided by Skoda.
  • Check as well in the protective strips or the paint, not cockles. Some Yeti’s are impacted as a result of poor quality paint.
