Saab 9 5 Estate
The first Saab 9-5 came in 1998 as the successor of the Saab 9000. This 9-5 would be a long career to go, it was the first generation 9-5 thirteen years on the market, while 6-7 years is more common for car models.

Total 252.236 sedans and 231.357 stations built in three series. In 2001 came the first facelift on the market, and in 2005 was the 9-5 for the last tight including chrome ‘glasses’ around the headlights.

Prices start under 1000 euros, but then you have instances with 3 tonnes or more at the counter.   • Distribution of automatic / manual gearbox is about 50/50.
  • Automatic transmission was until 2001 a controlled gearbox, then came an instance with five gears.
  • The manual gearbox is always a vijfbak.
  • Furthermore, there are a lot of variations in equipment, though many vehicles have a navigation system.
  • Prices start under 1000 euros for instances with 3 tonnes or more at the counter.

Pros

Issues

  • The B205 and B235 viercilinders t/m 2003 that interest by ‘Black Sludge’ olieproblemen. From model year 2004, crankcase ventilation is applied, and the problem is gone. For the earlier models there was also a fix, the so-called MOD 6. Check always good or that is actually is made, to recognize a rubber hose to the side of the olievulpijp.
  • Headlights are large and are therefore susceptible to stone chips. Lamps with automatic height control is sometimes piece. Expensive repair at the dealer, but replacing the motor with a specialist for less than $ 200 done.
  • If the head gasket leaks at the corners of the block indicates bad maintenance.
  • SID Display: pixels die, one of the most common problems for Saab 9-5’s. Let can replace for around 100 euro.
  • Cracking / banging from the suspension could indicate worn dampers but is often also to solve the rubbers to be replaced. The rubbers themselves are not expensive, the labor can reach up to several hundreds of euros. The rear shock absorbers go there usually earlier than the front.
  • The turbos on the 2.3 engine have a service life of about 150,000 kilometres. This is recognizable by at the start to blue smoke to watch out for.   • The DIC (Direct Injection Cassette) goes between the 100k and 200k miles. Replacement is easy, a new unit costs around 350 euros, a used half.   • 2.0 / 2.3: Rattling sound of the chain indicates wear. If it occurs, this is around the 150k – 200k miles.
  • V6: the drive belt every 60k-100k to be replaced.
  • Diesel: the V6 has had problems with the EGR valve and the cylinder liners fail sometimes. The 1.9 and 2.2 know little problems, but it can’t hurt to the age of the water pump to check.
  • The Aero was fitted with a 2.3 T from 2006 was good for 260 hp. The other 2.3 T models lacked only the sports suspension, aluminium interior, special wheels and two-tone leather and therefore are a great “budget-Aero”, as Aero usually in the more expensive cars of the 9-5 range hear.
