Created pain relieving patch whose effect lasts for 12 hours

Создан обезболивающий пластырь, чей эффект длится 12 часов

Drug Ibuprofen was first synthesized by Stewart Adams and John Nicholson in 1962. Already by 1983 it received the status of over-the-counter drug, and two years later it was used by over 100 million people worldwide. At the pharmacy can you buy Ibuprofen in the form of tablets, drops, gel for external application, but to this day no one has created a pain medication patch on the basis of this drug.

A new patch is able to reduce the pain, bypassing the human skin feeding and Ibuprofen in his blood for over 12 hours. This product became a reality thanks to the collaboration of scientists from the British University of Warwick and research company Medherant. The patch consists of a transparent polymer matrix filled with medicine. To be precise, the amount of Ibuprofen can be up to 30% of the weight of plaster. In the same gel, by the way, contains only 10% of the drug.

The team of researchers managed to achieve a uniform admission of the drug in the blood over a long period of time. Scientists themselves claim that their patch “very sticky”, as it should be as close to the human body for the effective absorption of medications. The product primarily will be of interest to persons with localized chronic pain, e.g. back pain or arthritis. The makers of the patch claim that they will be able to market it within the next two years.
